All the Feels
Today, after dropping my dad off at the airport, I cried. I used to cry all the time. My emotional control was...shall we say...non-existent? Lately, I find that I don’t have time for crying (although you may not know that based on my previous two posts). But today, I cried. The 4 year old saw alligator tears rolling down my cheeks as I strapped him into his booster seat and asked, “Why are you sad, mommy?” And I said, “Because Grandpa had to fly back to Minnesota.” He sat there for a while in silence. Then, calmly and with sincerity, he said, “Mommy, I’m sorry your dad had to leave.”
My heart nearly burst right then and there at the airport drop-off. There was a lady standing next to our car. She watched the entire thing happen. I wondered if she had any idea how that moment felt. I hoped she did. That moment was warm, comforting, reassuring, and completely unexpected.
These tiny humans that we get to hang out with? They’re pretty amazing.
