12 Days of Self-Care: Give | Set the Table #selfcare #giving

About a week ago, we were leaving a Target parking lot. We hit the red light leaving the shopping area and the 6 year old said, “Hey guys, do we have any food we can give to that man?” Completely unnoticed by the rest of us, there was a man with a cardboard sign standing right outside the door. Randomly, we had a bag full of cookies warm from the oven and, after asking permission from both the boys, I rolled down the window and handed the whole bag to the man outside. It was cold and rainy and he had to be freezing cold. Because of my sweet boy and his big heart, we were able to make a small difference by giving away our freshly baked cookies. Brad and I were so proud of the 6 year old and we all drove away wishing we could do more but thankful we did something.

There is always someone out there who is worse off than you. Giving to others is like opening yourself up to the universe in a big way. It changes you from the inside out. That little bit is the self-care part of giving. But the biggest bit, where you give someone else a little ray of hope by making them feel seen and cared for, is the most an amazing thing. Everyone deserves love and care, no matter their circumstance. Believe in them and give them that 6 year old hope. You never know what they are battling and how much it means to be handed a bag of freshly baked cookies.
