Food Storage | Wasteless Wednesday

Every Wednesday, I’m going to share with you some of my favorite ways to work toward a zero waste 24 hours in the kitchen. These tips are easy to implement, affordable (anyone else a fan of saving $$$?), and kind to our planet.

I have a very difficult time keeping my cabinets organized. I tend to be in a rush when I’m putting things away, which inevitably ends up making my cabinets a mess of awkward boxes, bags and jars. And I can’t find stuff. And things fall out. It’s just a really big mess. I started using food storage containers about a year ago to help keep everything neat and tidy and visible. Plus, it’s made it possible for me to reduce my waste by purchasing certain things in the bulk food section! If you bring your own container (yep, the exact same one you’ll put right back in your cabinet when you get home from the store), you end up not using ANY plastic waste. WIN!

Here are my favorite options (with links) for cabinet food storage!

  1. OXO Good Grips Airtight POP Container Set. These containers are perfect for storing just about anything. It eliminates the need for awkward shaped boxes and bags, lets you see exactly what is inside, and keeps food super fresh.

  2. Large Mason Jars. This basic item has so many uses! I love them for storing quinoa, rice, or dried beans. They also make the perfect storage solution for homemade nut milks and bone broth. Bonus: They’re super affordable!

  3. Tupperware Modular Mates. These have so many configurations and sizes! They’re great for cereal, crackers, pasta…literally anything and everything. They also have these awesome storage solutions for your fridge. I use and love them for greens!
