Welcome!

I’m so glad you’re here.

I hope you’ll stay a while and read some stories, browse some of my favorite recipes, and feel free to be yourself.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! To Blog, or Not to Blog?

This isn’t fun anymore.

Tokyo Terrace was my first blog and it was my passion for a number of years. When I was lonely or had a head full of stories and no one to talk to, I could sit down at my computer and let it all spill out. I didn’t worry about who was reading it or why. I wrote for the love of writing. A simple walk to the grocery store in Tokyo, Japan provided enough content for a short story. I was never at a loss for words or inspiration.

When I started Set the Table, we had just moved to Denver, Colorado. We had a 6 month old, a house we had just flipped, and I found myself feeling alone again. But writing on Tokyo Terrace didn’t work because…well…location matters it turns out. This new blog was supposed to be a place where I could open up about life as a mom, sharing easy family recipes that were beautiful and healthy and sometimes fancy.

I posted frequently for a couple of years, working during nap times and late into the night. I even got a longterm freelance gig that seemed promising and could potentially launch my blog into a larger sphere. When I was pregnant with our second baby, that job fell apart and the wind was knocked out of my sails for a while.

I’ve hobbled along, trying to keep up with what the blogging world has developed into over the last 10+ years. SEO, recipe trends, Pinterest, instagram, facebook, email lists, newsletters…the list continues to grow and blogs get bigger and bigger. They have become something I don’t recognize and, quite frankly, have little passion for.

In light of all of this, I have decided not to stop blogging, but to instead blog the way I did back in the day. Progressing is important in life, but sometimes the original way is the best way. At least when it comes to the things that make your heart sing. So this isn’t goodbye. This is an acknowledgement that things are going to look different around here. More free-flowing, inspiration-based posting than what I’ve done for some time.

I hope you’ll stick around for it.
