Hot Honey Simple Syrup

Rachael White February 11, 2022

Hot honey is a craze I can get behind. Spicy sweet honey that is drizzled over fried chicken, oozing off of biscuits, and, thanks to my hot honey simple syrup recipe, making the mixed drink world a little spicier! This was one of those ideas that hit me hard and fast and wow am I glad I acted on that inspiration because this simple syrup is DELICIOUS!

How can I use Hot Honey Simple Syrup?

Friends, there are so many fun ways to use hot honey and just as many (maybe more) ways to use the simple syrup version. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Mixed into a margarita

  • As a spicy addition to a vodka martini

  • Drizzled into hot chocolate for a hint of heat on a cold day

  • Mixed into hot apple cider (it would also be lovely in this bourbon apple cider recipe)

  • Used in place of sugar in an old fashioned

  • Mixed with lemonade and sparkling water for a summer mocktail

That just scratches the surface!

What you need to make Hot Honey Simple Syrup

You’ll need a few things. Yes, you can buy hot honey at the store but it is also a breeze to make at home. If you don’t have any in the cupboard and want to try your hand at making it yourself, here’s what you’ll need for this recipe:

  • dried or fresh chile peppers

  • honey (clover honey is what I prefer to use)

  • water

That’s it! So few ingredients, so much flavor.

How long will it last?

This recipe for Hot Honey Simple Syrup will last about 3-4 weeks in an airtight container in your fridge. But I’m gonna be honest and say you will probably go through it before that amount of time passes…

Yes! You can add all sorts of things and strain them out with the chili peppers as stated in the recipe below. These are some fun add-ins to try:

How to Make Hot Honey Simple Syrup

Makes approximately 1 1/2 cups of syrup

  • 1 cup honey

  • 2/3 cup water

  • 3 dried or fresh chiles of your choice (jalapeno, Thai, chile de arbol, or guajillo chiles all work well)

  1. Combine all of your ingredients in a saucepan over medium high heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  2. Pour the honey syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a liquid measuring cup (heatproof, please!) and let the syrup come to room temp. Transfer to a jar or other container with a tight fitting lid and refrigerate until ready to use.
