Hot Honey Margarita
I’m dreaming of sitting outside in the warm sun with friends and family, laughing and eating and perhaps sipping one of these sweet and spicy Hot Honey Margaritas. I love a little spice in my margarita and this one, spiked with hot honey simple syrup, is delicious. The hint of honey balances beautifully with a blend of citrus juices - I’ve done this with just lime juice but my favorite is lime with fresh squeezed orange juice.
This particular recipe is based on Clayton’s Margarita from The Defined Dish. Give me a cocktail with egg white any day!
How to to make a Hot Honey Margarita
This margarita is a breeze to whip up. Literally. Just combine the ingredients in a blender (no ice to start) and buzz it around a couple of times to mix and create a nice egg white froth. Then, simply pour it over ice and enjoy!
Can I omit the egg white?
Yes! The egg white is optional if it makes you feel kinda weird. But I highly recommend you at least give it a try! It gives the cocktail a lovely, slightly creamy feel and a beautiful appearance with that layer of foam.
Can I make the margaritas ahead of time?
You can- I would recommend not letting it all sit for more than a few hours. But if you want to mix up a batch in the morning for an evening gathering, just put everything (including the egg white) in your blender and set it in the fridge. DO NOT BLEND until just before you are ready to serve.
Can I double or triple the batch?
Absolutely! No tricks there- just multiply the measurements below by 2 or 3 (or even 4) to make larger batches.
Hot Honey Margarita
based on this recipe from The Defined Dish
Makes 2 cocktails
1/2 cup tequila (we prefer silver tequila)
juice of two limes
juice of 1 orange (any variety will do- blood orange makes a beautiful color)
1/4 cup hot honey simple syrup
1 teaspoon egg whites
chili lime seasoning for the rim of your glass (Trader Joe’s brand or Tajin are both perfect)
Combine the tequila, lime and orange juices, hot honey simple syrup, and egg whites in a blender. Blend for about 5 seconds until ingredients are combined and egg whites have become frothy.
Use a lime wedge or a little of the hot honey simple syrup to line the rim of your glass. Spread the chili lime seasoning on a small plate and dip the rim to coat. Fill glasses with ice.
Pour margaritas evenly between two ice filled glasses. Garnish with lime wedges if desired. Enjoy!
