The Chicago Cubs restored my faith in humanity...

The Chicago Cubs restored my faith in humanity...

My husband and I watched game 7 of the World Series last night. We were rooting for the Cubs, who *spoiler alert* won the World Series after 108 years of bad luck. I am a Twins fan, but during that game last night I was on pins and needles, feeling sick to my stomach to the very end, and feeling very much like a Cubs fan. This morning, I was thinking about how amazing it is that this game, in particular, brought much of the country together. For at least a few hours, we were focused on something besides politics and divisiveness. NPR interviewed someone this morning who sounded so genuinely, blissfully happy that the Cubs won. I'm pretty sure that, no matter what, his spirit couldn't be broken. What a beautiful thing.

There was something about hearing that man speak about this team he loved so much that made me feel like things aren't as bad as this election season has made it seem. Maybe we all need to find something that sparks excitement the way the Cubs did for so many last night. Or maybe the secret is simply opening ourselves up to the pure joy that can come from something as simple as a game of baseball.
