Thanksgiving 2020 | Set the Table

Thanksgiving 2020. It was a strangely sweet, sad day. Sweet because I spent the day with my two sons and my husband. We cooked together, listened to music together, got dressed up and set a fancy table. It was a day filled with beautiful moments and memories made. It was a wonderful day and we all felt deeply thankful.

When we were sitting around the table, the The Thanksgiving Song by Ben Rector started playing and Brad and I both began to cry. There is something about it that just pulls at my heart every time I hear it. And there, in the candlelight with my family, I couldn’t hold back the tears anymore.

“So fill your plate and fill your drink. Put your dishes in the kitchen sink and let the leftover year just wash away. Cause we made it through, I do believe, the longest year in history. Thank God for this Thanksgiving Day.” -The Thanksgiving Song by Ben Rector

Someday, I know we will look back at this time. I don’t know exactly what we will say about it, to be completely honest. But it will be remembered often and with clarity. Though much of this pandemic has been absolutely horrible, I hope we can hold on to some of what we’ve learned. At the top of my mind is the knowledge that being busy does not lead to happiness. For us, we have learned that we are happiest when we are allowed the space to slow down and just be together. I never want to forget that.

What do you want to remember from this time that can make your life better?
